Introduction

PI (Personal/Publishable Information) Desktop is a desktop software to maintain and share personal information.

The objective of this software is help people to publish themself to the internet world, find and keep touch with other people who them interested in.

Using this software, users can maintain their personal information and share some of them ( if they want ), through p2p network with each other, which include articles, diary, album, personal web site, and favorite web link, e.t. And also, you can publish your comments on information which published by other people.

It focus on information, not file/media like most of existing pop p2p shareing softwares.

It is completely free to keep and publish any information you wanted.

It is built on Java/ Eclipse RCP platform, and can run on any OS which supports Java&Eclipse.

It is built on JXTA p2p network, which help user acess each other even behind Firewall/NAT.

Q: What difference between PI Desktop and other p2p applications?
A: PI focus on information sharing. Most popular p2p application (such as edonkey, BT....)focus on file/media sharing, such as video, audio...

Q: What difference between PI Desktop and other Personal Information System or CMS?
A: Simply, you can share your information with others. And enjoy those offered by others.

Q: I have a Blog/online album. What can I benefit from moveing to PI?
A: Blog is great. But it is limited. Using PI, you get these features blog does not offer:

  • You get unlimited content size and unlimited content type.
  • You are completely free to design your content.
  • You can define who can read for certain information piece, and who can not.
  • You will never move one web site to another and force your readers move, which often happen when you find the blog service is not satisfying.
  • You can easly get feed back from your readers and keep in touch with them.
  • It is free.

Q: Which information types PI suppot?
A: Personal home page, Articles, Diaries, Albums, RSS feeds, Bookmarks, Reminders will be supported in initial version. Other types will be easly added in follow-up version.
